H2 – 2023 Release Schedule
Preview Release – October 20, 2023
Production Release – November 17, 2023
1. Automatic Time Sheet Submission for Overtime Recorders
Sap added a possibility to automatically submit time sheets of overtime recorders when certain criteria are fulfilled.
Currently, overtime recorders need to submit their time sheets manually. As the employees might forget to submit their time sheets, we provided this enhancement.
What’s Changed
How It Looks Now
In the current version, you can set up a Time Sheet Submission Rule that submits time sheets based on the criteria you set. You assign this rule to a Time Recording Submission Configuration, which in turn is assigned to a Time Recording Profile. Note that the Time Recording Method in the Time Recording Submission Configuration and the Time Recording Profile must be set to Overtime.

2. Information Button on Time Sheet UI
We’ve added an Information button to the Time Sheet UI, which appears when you define an instructional text in the Time Recording Profile.
Once the text is defined, users can refer to it by selecting the Information button at the top of the UI. The text shown is the one entered in the time recording profile currently assigned to the user. This means that if a user looks at a time sheet from last year, when a different time recording profile was assigned to them, they will see the text from the time recording profile assigned to them now, not from the time recording profile assigned to them last year.
The information button does not appear in the Time Sheet UI if no instructional text is defined for the relevant time recording profile.
Here’s an illustration of what the instructional text can look like in the object:
Here’s an illustration of what the information button and instructional text look like in the time sheet UI:
We’ve added instructional texts to provide users with the information they need to maintain their time sheets. This is necessary because the requirements are very different, for example, for those who record only overtime, those who use negative time recording, and those who use positive time recording.

3.Minimum Break Duration
You can now determine how long manually recorded breaks must be to be considered as breaks during dynamic break generation.
You can set up the system to generate breaks if users don’t record breaks. For example, you can specify that the system generates a 30-minute break if employees record an 8-hour shift without recording a break. However, if employees record 30 minutes of break time manually, the system doesn’t generate a break. If you don’t set up minimum break duration, employees can avoid dynamic break generation by recording six 5-minute breaks. However, many countries and regions have laws that govern how long breaks must be. To comply with such laws, you can set up minimum break duration. For example, if you set up a minimum break duration of 15 minutes, six 5-minute breaks wouldn’t avoid dynamic break generation, but two 15-minute breaks would. If you count gaps between recordings as breaks, they’re also considered when assessing minimum break times.
We’ve introduced minimum break duration to help customers comply with regulations that govern minimum break times.
Configuration Requirements
If you have configured dynamic break generation, the Minimum Break Duration in Minutes field is available automatically.

4. Rest Rules
You can now set up rest rules for employees. Rest rules ensure that employees take sufficient rest between shifts.
Let’s say you want to make sure that employees rest at least 11 hours between shifts. Therefore, you set up a rest rule that determines a minimum rest period of 11 hours. Now, an employee clocks in at 10 PM the previous day and clocks out 6:04 AM the next day. The employee clocks back in at 2 PM on the same day they clocked out. The result is a rest period of less than 8 hours, that is, a rest period violation. Therefore, the system creates an alert that notifies you of the rest period violation. To support this scenario, we’ve added the new valuation type Create Time Record. Additionally, we’ve added the option to run the valuation type Deduct Group from Input Groups for an entire multiday period rather than on a daily basis.
Minimum rest periods are a legal requirement in many countries and regions. By supporting the implementation of rest rules, we help customers meet this legal requirement.
Configuration Requirements
You set up rest rules by creating time valuations that analyze gaps between working days in a time sheet period and identify gaps that aren’t long enough. Setting up rest rules includes configuring the following:
- A time container that stores the start and end time for each working day.
- A time valuation with the valuation type Aggregate Input Group and Split. This time valuation provides the time container with the start and end time for each working day.
- A time type group that makes the data in the time container available to time valuations.
- A second time valuation with the valuation type Create Time Record. This time valuation creates a record that defines the rest rule period.
- A third time valuation with the valuation type Deduct Group from Input Groups. This time valuation calculates the gaps between working days by deducting the working times from the record for the rest rule period.
- A fourth time valuation with the valuation type Create Time Record that specifies your minimum rest period.
- A fifth time valuation with the valuation type Filter Single Records from Input Groups. This time valuation compares the gaps between working days in the time sheet period with the minimum rest period. If a gap is shorter than the minimum rest period, this valuation also creates an alert.
How It Looks Now
An employee clocks out at 6:04 AM.
How It Looks Now
The same employee clocks in again at 2 PM. The recorded rest period is 7 hours and 56 minutes. This rest period is short of the required rest period of 11 hours.
How It Looks Now
The system now creates an alert because of this rest period violation.

5. Time Containers
Time containers persist time valuation results that aren’t used by payroll.
Before we introduced time containers, only time valuation results that were used by payroll were persisted. However, there are use cases for persisting time validation results that aren’t used by payroll. For example, when detecting rest rule violations in a time sheet period, you need to persist start and end times of shifts within that period to calculate the rest times between those shifts. You might also want to persist such start and end times for reporting purposes.
We’ve introduced time containers because they’re required for rest rules and because we want to support certain reporting use cases.
Configuration Requirements
The Time Container Type field is available automatically in the time type group configuration. However, you need to configure a time valuation that provides input data to the time container.
